History

Harvest Baptist Church was established on January 1, 1984 in Edinburg, Texas. Prior to the church being established, the founders Ray and Gracie Higginbotham, along with the help of Duane and Marilyn Gibson, laid the groundwork of canvassing the Edinburg area and holding services in the Higginbotham’s home. On March 10th a tent was placed on Bond and Bond’s property (corner of Freddy Gonzalez Drive and McColl Road) for services to continue. The first baptism was on April 1st. On April 26th the church started meeting in one of Pete Bond’s offices. In September the first small octagon building was purchased from a putt-putt course and moved onto the property.

In October of 1984, Brother Frank Hayward was called to be the pastor. Under Frank Hayward’s leadership the church grew and purchased a mobile home to be used for Sunday School classrooms and for church fellowships. The work continued to grow and the Lord opened many doors for the church to purchase the property where the initial building and mobile home was placed. Then came the building permit and construction started on a new auditorium and classrooms. The Lord not only provided for the completion of the building but also for the furnishings.

In August of 1994, the church called Dale A. Yontz to be the pastor. Since then the parking lot has been paved and offices have been added to the existing building. Praise God in April of 1999, God provided the money for Harvest Baptist Church to become debt free. Pastor Yontz is currently serving in his twelfth year as pastor of the church. A fellowship hall, nurseries, and Sunday school building is under construction at this time.

In August 2005, Brian Yontz accepted God's call to become the full time associate pastor at the church.
